Hanuman, the son of Vaayu, is revered as the most ardent devotee of Lord Rama. Several texts also depict Him as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He stands out in the pantheon of Vedic gods as an epitome of power, piety, selfless devotion and humility. Hanuman is pictured in scriptures as a robust Vaanar, holding a mace (gada), which is a sign of bravery, and having a picture of Lord Rama depicted on His chest, which is a sign of His devotion to Lord Rama. He facilitates the growth of the creeper of devotion in devotees.
